Let me hear you say bye-bye to impurities with this DIY detoxifying activated charcoal face mask!
Activated charcoal is sometimes used in the emergency room to help treat drug overdose or a poisoning. When you take activated charcoal, some chemicals, drugs and toxins can bind to it and be safely transported out of the system.
When used in face masks, activated charcoal helps detox and purify skin by attracting and soaking up impurities.
It is incredibly detoxifying and I’m sure you’re itching to test it out for your skin! I know I was! But before we head on to the DIY detoxifying activated charcoal face mask recipe, let’s have a look at what other ingredients we shall be adding, shall we?
Ingredients in this Activated Charcoal Face Mask & their Benefits
There are five ingredients needed for this mask to be efficient. These include bentonite clay, activated charcoal, tea tree essential oil, apple cider vinegar and a bit of water! The benefits of these include:
🖤 Bentonite Clay
Bentonite clay is made from minerals including sodium, potassium and magnesium, among others formed from volcanic ash. Adding water to clay activates it, giving it a negative electric charge which removes heavy metals and many toxins, which are positively charged, from deep within the body.
This clay is incredibly detoxifying and clarifying for skin of all types. It also has a mild abrasive texture which exfoliates dead cells and helps rejuvenate skin.
🖤 Activated Charcoal
It has the ability to attract gunk and dirt stuck deep within the skin pores by pulling it out.
This gunk is composed of pollution, stale sebum, dirt, germs and other impurities that when accumulated inside the pores transform into pimples, blackheads and whiteheads.
Activated charcoal also controls excess oily skin as well as helps balance the skin’s natural slightly acidic pH.
🖤 Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree essential oil is one of the best essential oils for clogged pores. It also has disinfectant abilties as well as antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and other important properties that make it detoxifying.
Use not more than 2 drops in this face mask.
🖤 Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is extremely cleansing for skin. It also helps remove gunk from your pores.
It also has astringent properties that tighten skin, minimize the appearance of pores and keeps skin firm and taut.
The acids in apple cider vinegar help dissolve dead cells which helps exfoliate skin, revealing new smooths skin underneath.
🖤 Water
Water is an important ingredient in this face mask so don’t leave it out!
It is needed for activating the bentonite clay and diluting the raw apple cider vinegar which can be harsh if used alone.
How much water you use depends on how smooth or watery you want your face mask to be. Just add enough to make it a nice spreadable paste.
