What exactly is in coffee that makes it good for hair growth of all things?! Let’s find out below!
Special Ingredients in Coffee that Make it Amazing for Hair Growth
You’ll be surprised to know the ingredients in coffee that make it a beverage that is not just delicious, but nutritious as well!
- Caffeine – Of course. Everyone knows coffee is full of caffeine. But did you know that caffeine actually promotes hair growth? It does this by increasing blood circulation to your scalp, which mean each and every hair follicle is nourished with nutrient-rich blood, allowing them to do their job well – which is to produce healthy strong long hair. Caffeine also helps prevent hair loss and boosts hair regrowth too!
- Flavonoids – These plant pigments are rich in antioxidant properties that fight off oxidative damage-causing free radicals that make hair become dull, lifeless and prematurely gray. The flavonoids in coffee help regenerate damaged hair so that it gets back its original luster and becomes smoother and shinier.
- Acidic compounds – The acidic nature of coffee helps rebalance the natural pH of the scalp and hair. Some of the acids in coffee incude: chlorogenic, quinic, citric, acetic, lactic, malic, phosphoric, linoleic, and palmitic acids.
- Vitamins & Minerals – Yep, coffee also has vitamins and minerals that make them good for hair health! These include Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (niacin), magnesium, potassium, and various other antioxidants.
Benefits of Coffee for Hair Growth & More
There are many benefits of adding coffee to your hair care regimen and these include:
Exfoliates your scalp and removed dead cells. The natural acids in coffee act as gentle exfoliants to remove dead flakes on your scalp. These acids also tighten the scalp which helps control excess oils.
The compounds in coffee help revert the hormone DHT which causes both male and female pattern hair loss.
Using coffee on your hair, whether it’s simply mixing 1 tsp of brewed coffee in your shampoo, pouring a coffee hair rinse on your hair after a shower or spritzing a coffee hair growth spray, helps naturally prevent and reduce graying of hair.
Coffee promotes softer, smoother and shinier hair by helping your hair retain moisture.
Applying coffee directly on your scalp helps restore hair growth by awakening dormant hair follicles to continue the process of producing hair. It does this because of the caffeine content in it that helps stimulate blood flow to every hair follicle on the scalp.

Coffee has been used for centuries to dye your hair dark brown. I don’t suggest doing this unless you have brown or black hair.
