DIY Whipped Body Butter for Eczema Prone Skin
Below are instructions for how to make this DIY whipped body butter for eczema prone skin.
What you need
- 5 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil (where to get it)
- 3 tablespoons of unrefined shea butter (where to get it)
- 1 tablespoon calendula oil (where to get it)
- ½ tablespoon castor oil (where to get it)
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil (where to get it)
- 15 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
- 7 drops tea tree essential oil (where to get it)
- Hand mixer (where to get it)
- Storage container (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
Directions
- Begin by melting together the shea butter, coconut oil and castor oil in a double boiler. You can make your own double boiler by placing the three ingredients in a large bowl then place the bowl over a saucepan containing 2 inches of water. Heat the water over a medium-flame so the water boils and produces steam that gently melts the ingredients in the bowl.
- Once melted, let the ingredients cool down completely until it starts to solidify and turns opaque. This allows for easy whipping into a cream. If you keep it in the fridge for 20 minutes, it will speed up the cooling process.
- Next, use a hand mixer to whip the semi-solid ingredients for 3 minutes until combined. Add calendula oil, Vitamin E oil, tea tree essential oil and lavender essential oil.
- Whip again for 4 minutes to mix all ingredients evenly.
- When you obtain a whipped and fluffy cream, transfer into a sterilized airtight glass jar. Store in a cool dry place.
- It keeps for 6-12 months at room temperature. Do not let water get inside the container because it can introduce bacteria that may spoil the body butter.
How to Use
Slather a suitable amount of the body butter on freshly cleansed skin to relieve eczema symptoms.
