Kitchen witches will LOVE this one! Here’s a post focusing on 20+ best simmer pot recipes with benefits! PS: Anyone can make and enjoy these, of course!
If you’re into magical stuff, crystals, herbs and healing, a.k.a if you’re a witchy person, you must do simmer pot recipes!
You can easily incorporate intentions with each ingredient added and as it simmers away, soak in the scents or simmering ingredients till your candle burns out. This is a perfect way to meditate, manifest and unwind!
Why Simmer Pots Are Magickal
Not just for kitchen or green witches, simmer pots are a great way for anyone, whether you’re a spiritual person or not, to incorporate all four elements into your everyday life.
These include Water when you pour it to the simmer pot, plants/herbs you add as ingredients from the Earth, heating the mixture with Fire and then the Steam that rises from the Air. Simmer pots are in essence, elemental magick!
Select Your Herbs
There are so many herbs to select! Each herb has its own set of magical uses. You just have to match your intentions to the properties of the herbs and bam! You have a good intention-setting simmer pot.
Simmer pots are also aromatic because they contain aroma therapeutic herbs/spices/flowers and more.
Different aromas stimulate our olfactory sense and trigger different effects on our brain. For example, the scent of lavender is known to calm your mind while rosemary’s scent is known to sharpen your memory.
Herbs also have different magical properties and uses which you can set your intentions or energies with. For example, rosemary is said to be powerfully protective while lavender is for purification, good luck, healing and peace.
I’ll quickly go through a list of common herbs to use, based on their general intentions below:
- Purification/Cleansing – rosemary, peppermint, cinnamon, frankincense, chamomile, sage, lemongrass, mint
- Protection/Banishing – angelica, rosemary, cloves, eggshells, anise, bay leaf, black pepper, basil, anise, cayenne, red pepper flakes, coriander, cloves, cumin, dill, fennel, garlic, lime, marjoram, salt, coconut, blueberries
- Bringing money/wealth/abundance/prosperity/success – peppermint, dill, parsley, cinnamon, bay leaf, spearmint, allspice, chamomile, ginger, patchouli, nutmeg
- Attracting love – rosebuds, apple slices, cloves, honey, basil, vanilla, cinnamon, coriander
- Good luck – mint, vervain, pine, lemongrass, frankincense, violet, parsley, basil, lotus, citronella, irish moss, cinnamon, pine, clove
- Relaxation/peace – lavender, chamomile, valerian, marjoram, lemon balm, sage
- Grounding – ginger, turmeric, black pepper, basil, chives, nettle
- Happiness/uplifting – orange slices/peels, cinnamon, feverfew, mint

Choose Your Water
Water will always be the base of your spell or simmer pot magick.
You can customize your water to set your intention for the simmer pot. The steam that evaporates from your simmer pot is made up of water, which acts as the vehicle carrying your intentions or spell.
Matching the right kind of water helps amplify your intention. Here are different types of waters to use for your simmer pot.
Note: Filtered or tap water is also fine of course! Remember, your intention is what matters the most when it comes to spirituality!
💧 Rainwater – This is the easiest water to collect. Simply set a large bowl outside right beneath the sky while it’s pouring! Rainwater is multipurpose magickal water. It is good for purification, protection and growth, which is why it is especially useful when used in spells you want to grow stronger or powerful overtime.
💧 Moon water – A popular witchy water, moon water is a very mystical and fun ingredient to make! Wash a glass jar, cleanse it inside with incense, then pour clean water (I prefer filtered) into it and set it under a full moon. You can put it outside or on a window sill with the blinds open on a full moon. Collect your moon water the next morning, preferably before sunrise. This is a multipurpose water but it is especially good for cleansing, renewal, manifesting, and for supercharged intention-setting.
💧 Sun water – Sun water is practically the opposite of moon water. Cleanse your jar, fill it with water and let it sit in a sunny area. Collect it just when the sun sets. It gives any spell a boost of energy. Also great for any potent solar spells or in this case, happiness/joy/abundance simmer pot recipes.
💧 Storm water – You probably already guessed that storm water holds stronger power than any other witchy waters because a violent thunderstorm carries with it more potency than a light drizzle or downpour. It depends on the strength of the storm and your intentions but storm water can be used to increase any spell working or simmer pot. For example, you can use it for the B!tch Be Gone simmer pot below!
💧 Sea water – Next time you go to the beach, collect a bottle of sea water. It is useful in healing and blessing spells and simmer pots, for example the ‘I Am Blessed’ simmer pot recipe below. The natural salt content in sea water makes it more cleansing and protecting.
💧 River water – A river always flows rapidly and it is never stable or stagnant. This makes it great for spell works where you want to move away from something, someone or a situation. Use it if you want to release, let go and make a positive change in your life. For example, add it to the New Year’s or the Spiritual Connection simmer pot recipe below.
💧 Lake water – Going to the lake creates a peaceful atmosphere which brings calm. Use lake water for work that promotes peace & contentment. For example, the Inner Peace simmer pot recipe you see below.
💧 Swamp water – Ooh, so this one is for a bit more advanced uses. Swamp water is muddy, murky and something used for hexing, banishing and revenge work. It is perfect for aggressive banishing spells. It can be used in a Banishing simmer pot like B!tch Be Gone which is listed below.
💧 Dew water – Dew water seems so enchanting, doesn’t it? It is a practice in fairy and glamor magic! Dew is precious and useful for glow up, beauty, love and eve fertility spells. Collecting dew is tricky and even if you are successful, you will collect only a tiny teeny amount. It is added to moon or sun water and then added to spell works. Tip: Use a glass dropper to collect dew water.
💧 Snow water – In fall and autumn, snow water becomes a more popular witchy water because of its easy access. Fall/winter symbolize the death phase of the natural cycle. These are the seasons where Nature dies or hibernates until it emerges anew. Melted snow or snow water can be used in work that seeks new beginning and transformation such as the ‘New Beginnings’ simmer pot below.
💧 Ice water
Ice water is different from snow water in a way that it is collected from icicles that drip water in the end of the winter when the sun is coming out more. It can be used for transformations, purification and creativity since this is the time for renewal and rebirth.
💧 Harbor water – Collecting harbour water if you live near one, is nice because it can be easily used for abundance and prosperity work. Since the olden days, harbors have been points where new goods and replenishments were shipped out, which symbolically represents money making, riches, wealth and looking for new opportunities. This water can be used in the ‘Money Bringing Simmer Pot’ I listed below.
Before we look at the simmer pot recipes, let’s first get through some questions about simmer pot recipes:
Questions about Simmer Pots
What does a simmer pot do?
These are intentional simmer pots. Each one has a different intention and benefits depending on the ingredients chosen, for example, adding egg shells for protection or dill to draw prosperity. Set your intentions while adding each ingredient.
However, a large part of using them is for their aroma! Relight your tea light 2-3 times to get the most out of your simmer pots.
In fact, the second tealight is when you get stronger aroma.
Why a mini simmer pot?
My favorite way to make simmer pots is to make them MINI simmer pots.
This means using a tiny fondue pot and burner/aroma diffuser/butter warmer which uses a tea light candle!
It’s super cute, special and totally worth it doing this way. You can have a simmer pot in your bedroom/altar/private place and practically any room in the house – it doesn’t have to be in the kitchen on the stove.
Obviously making a simmer pot on the stove is much faster as the heat source is quick to heat up the ingredients and produces scent super quick.
However with mini simmer pots, you use tea light candles and though the process is slower to heat things up, you can tell when you can stop simmering and you can be present while the pot simmers, unlike kitchen simmer pots on the stove. I usually stop simmering at 3 tea light candles.
Mini simmer pots use less ingredients which is cheaper and easier to handle rather than a big simmer pot on the stove.
Also, you can’t sit by your stove but you can sit right next to a mini simmer pot and enjoy it from start to finish!
What do you do with all the ingredients after you use them?
Provided you didn’t add salt to your recipe, bury the used ingredients into the Earth/compost. You can also put it in a stream or moving waterbody. This is because when salt is buried in soil, it negatively affects plant growth.
If there is salt added, show gratitude and mindfully throw it away. In the trash, for example.
Can I use fresh fruit/ingredients?
Yes! Fresh fruit can be used. Drying them or buying them dried just ensures I always have stock on hand to make my simmer pots since dried stuff lasts longer.
How do you dry the fruit/spices?
I usually buy dried and packaged ingredients because I have no time! You can honestly also use regular dried ingredients from the store such as candied berries, etc!
However, you can also use your oven. Prepare your ingredients by washing them, chopping or slicing them into thin pieces, then drying them thoroughly with paper towels. Line parchment paper on a baking tray, space out your chopped ingredients (like thinly sliced strawberries). Set your oven according to how it works best. Choose a low setting to prevent burning your ingredients. It can take several hours, say 6-8 hours to get fully dried.
If using a dehydrator, it is easier but takes 12-24+ hours.
How much water do I add to my simmer pot?
Fill the pot about 3/4 full with water. Also, you can add more water as it reduces. Never leave it unattended so you can ensure there’s always water in the pot so it doesn’t burn.
How do I set intentions with a simmer pot?
Follow these steps!
- Pour water 3/4 way into your mini pot.
- Add ingredients to the pot while keeping in mind the magical uses for each herb. For example, when adding rosemary for protection, visualize having a protective barrier around you and/or your house.
- After adding the ingredients, gently dip them into the pot (because it’s a mini simmer pot, stirring is hard and would only make the ingredients spill out). Dip them in a clockwise direction. If doing a banishing or releasing simmer pot, then dip them going in a counter clockwise direction.
- While the pot is simmering, steam is coming off, visualize your desired outcome or goal of the magickal work you are doing. You may recite, chant or whisper your goals/affirmations.
- Once you’re done, let your simmer pot simmer away merrily. Feel free to add 2-4 tea light candles after the first one goes out. Also, you can add more water as it reduces. Don’t let it all evaporate. I usually let my simmer pot run for 3-4 tea light candles before I call it a day!
I hope these answer your questions! If you have any more, simply ask away in the comments section below and I’ll be happy to answer!

23. Summer Simmer Pot
This is a fresh citrusy simmer pot to enjoy once summer starts and especially around the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, on 21st of July!
By making this simmer pot, you’re harnessing the element of fire, which is very symbolic for the day of summer solstice, also known as Midsummer.
This is because in ancient times, people gathered on the solstice to light sacred fires, reflecting on the potency of the sun.
What you need
- Sun water
- 3-4 lemon slices for joy and happiness
- 3-4 lime slices for healing
- 2-3 orange slices for prosperity
- A small handful of rosemary to bring back your power
- A small handful of lavender to boost your mood
- A small handful of mint to draw in good energy
- Fondue pot
- Tea light candle
Directions
- Pour sun water (water poured into a glass bottle, placed in full sun & collected before moonlight/darkness) into a fondue pot.
- Add the rest of the ingredients with intention.
- Place a tea light candle under the pot and light it.
- Enjoy!

thank you so very much for this! i have be “doing” simmer pots for some years, not knowing what it’s called. started with a teapot and warmer, with essential and fragrance oils, but developed some type of allergy to the carrier oils last winter (after purchasing a bunch). this autumn, i decided to make my own mulling spices. after Samhain, i started looking for other ideas, and learned it’s called a simmer pot! since, i’ve been researching online and attempting some recipes. but your page is the best i’ve found! never thought of the different water, and using the simmer pot as a Craft. and i’ve gathered the ingredients for the new year pot this evening.
thank you and blessings!
