Find out how to make a DIY egg shampoo for hair growth in this post. Yup, this is for the crunchy at heart but if you’re dying to grow your hair naturally, then jump in the bandwagon!
I’ve always been a fan of homemade beauty products and making my own shampoo is one of them.
Another thing I’m crazy about is hair growth – especially after I lost a lot of hair because I had severe anemia…
My once long thick hair reduced so much because I was losing clumps a day whether in the shower or when brushing it.
On my quest to using natural hair growers like castor oil, coconut oil and peppermint oil, I thought about using an egg shampoo.
I’ve used an egg hair mask before but an diy egg shampoo for hair growth is something I really loved trying out!
For one, it really did cleanse my hair, I masked the eggy smell with essential oils and I didn’t use any conditioner for detangling or whatever.
Here’s why eggs promote hair growth:
Can Egg Promote Hair Growth?
Eggs are a rich source of protein and biotin – two ingredients that boost hair growth by miles.
Protein strengthens your hair strands and prevents them from snapping easily. It also nourishes your hair and promotes regrowth of lost hair.
Biotin helps encourage lush long hair from the inside (through diet) but it can also fortify the surface of hair strands when applied externally.
Eggs are also natural cleansers! Women long ago used to use eggs especially egg yolks beaten till frothy as a homemade shampoo which is so fascinating to me!

Will my Hair Stink after Using this DIY Egg Shampoo?
I had the same concerns too. And not just that – I was worried my shower will smell horrible.
However, I used essential oils that helped mask the smell of eggs in my hair.
My hair smelled of the essential oils I used – peppermint and tea tree.
When my hair completely dried, I was ready to add a drop of geranium essential oil to my hair brush and brush through. This is a nice trick if you want your hair to smell amazing, by the way.
But – I took a whiff of my hair and it had a fresh clean scent of freshly washed hair! LOL. No unsexy egg smell lingered.
As for the shower though, make sure to clean it up after your shower to make it smell neat again.
How Many Times Can I Use this DIY Egg Shampoo for Hair Growth?
I wash my hair everyday but I don’t use shampoo on my hair every single day. I shampoo my hair every other day or once in three days.
I would use this shampoo 1-2 times a week because over using eggs on your hair can give you a protein overload which can leave your hair feeling frizzy.
I have other shampoos I try on the days I don’t use egg shampoo. I can use natural SLS-free hair growth shampoo (linked below), castile soap, honey, or rhassoul clay! Let me know if you’d like me to provide the recipes to those.
Some Tips
- I noticed for dry hair types, you need to add 1 tsp of olive or coconut oil to the mix. That’s because the egg shampoo will really leave your hair feeling squeaky clean and those with dry hair can see their hair feeling a little too dry or frizzy.
- Play around with the essential oils you use! I love geranium, lemon or ylang ylang essential oils for hair!
