Find the recipe for a lush DIY pumpkin sugar scrub which provides the gentlest exfoliation, leaving your skin plump, supple and glowing!
I absolutely loved making and scrubbing myself with this DIY pumpkin sugar scrub that smells just like a pumpkin spice latte.
*Happy sigh*…if you love that warm pumpkin spice scent and enjoy making stuff yourself, it’s time to get your hands mixing because I’m about to share one of the coolest pumpkin sugar scrub recipes!
The texture is super soft, smooth and mild – it will not leave your skin scratched like other scrubs. It locks in moisture especially during this cold harsh season, while providing a gentle exfoliation with the tiny caster sugar granules.
Here’s what we shall be using:
Ingredients in this DIY Pumpkin Sugar Scrub
You’ll need caster sugar, pumpkin puree, coconut oil, pumpkin spice powder, vanilla extract, clove bud essential oil, allspice essential oil and cinnamon essential oil.
That may sound like a handful but trust me, you simply NEED these ingredients to create a delicious smelling DIY pumpkin sugar scrub! You’ll feel like you’re in for a treat while you’re in the shower!
Why these ingredients in particular? Well, let me list the benefits!
Caster Sugar
It has a fine texture that doesn’t scratch your skin like regular sugar! You can make your own caster sugar by grinding regular sugar in a spice grinder, like I did.
Just make sure not to grind for long or it’ll turn into powdered sugar/confectioner’s sugar which is not the consistency we want. Powdered sugar will dissolve instantly when mixed with pumpkin puree.
Caster sugar has fine particles but not fine enough to instantly dissolve. It’ll provide just the right amount of gentle exfoliation you need.
Pumpkin Puree
This is the main ingredient in this pumpkin sugar scrub! You can choose to use homemade pumpkin puree or canned pumpkin puree.
To make a super simple homemade pumpkin puree, simply wash, cut and chop a pumpkin into pieces then steam it using a steamer pot.
Once steamed, take off the skin and blend the pumpkin flesh till smooth and creamy!
Pumpkin is rich in antioxidants and nutrients such as niacin, riboflavin, B6, folate, zinc, potassium, alpha hydroxy acids, Vitamin A, E and C, all of which work together in providing a plethora of benefits of the skin.
These include helping fight acne, reducing redness and inflammation, increasing the production of collage which improves the tone and elasticity of skin, reverse signs of UV damage, locking moisture in skin, exfoliating skin cells and more!
Coconut Oil
An all round skincare oil, coconut oil easily penetrates into the skin, providing deep hydration.
Pumpkin Spice Powder
It doesn’t just have a scent that lights up your mood but also, warming properties that when applied on skin in a scrub, helps increase blood circulation, giving you a healthy glow.
Ground Cinnamon
It is exfoliating, increases blood circulation on the skin, good for removing cellulite and also provides a perfect fall scent!
Vanilla Extract
Vanilla extract basically contributes to the yummy scent of this DIY pumpkin sugar scrub! You could use vanilla fragrance oil, vanilla powder, vanilla essential oil or even real vanilla pods.
Clove Bud, Allspice & Cinnamon Essential Oils
Pumpkin spice is made of ingredients such as allspice, cloves, nutmeg and more. By adding these essential oils, you’ll enhance the scent to make it more pumpkin-spiced themed since essential oils have a powerful scent.
These essential oils also have warming properties that help increase blood flow to the skin, helping bring a glowing, dewy and youthful look to dull skin.
You need only 2 drops of each essential oil because they are potent.
DIY Pumpkin Sugar Scrub
What You Need
- 1 cup caster sugar (where to get it)
- ½ cup pumpkin puree *homemade or canned (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (where to get it)
- 1 tsp pumpkin spice powder (where to get it)
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (where to get it)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (where to get it)
- 2 drops clove bud essential oil (where to get it)
- 2 drops allspice essential oil (where to get it)
- 2 drops cinnamon essential oil (where to get it)
- Mixing bowl (where to get it)
- Whisk (where to get it)
- Mason jar for storage (where to get it)
Directions
- I began by making my own caster sugar by grinding regular sugar in a spice grinder (where to get it) to get coarse textured caster sugar. You can easily buy your own caster sugar to avoid the time spent grinding your own.
- In a mixing bowl, dump in the caster sugar, followed by pumpkin puree. Now, I made my own pumpkin puree by steaming ripe pumpkin pieces then blending it up in a high-speed blender (where to get it) . But you can obviously use canned pumpkin puree. Heck, you can even use pumpkin powder (where to get it). If you do use pumpkin powder, then your sugar scrub will last way longer and you don’t have to store it in the fridge!
- Now add coconut oil. You can melt it for easy mixing but I didn’t do that.
- Add pumpkin spice powder, cinnamon powder and vanilla extract.
- Mix till well combined.
- Finally, add all the essential oils, 2 drops each to form a DELISH smelling pumpkin sugar scrub!
- Finito! Store your homemade scrub in the fridge.
- To use, get a suitable amount in a bowl then take it to the shower with you. Rub it on your legs, arms and everywhere for soft moisturized skin that smells good too!
- Use within a week.
