Ingredients Used in this DIY Multi-Purpose Beauty Balm
Before we head to the recipe, I first want to share what makes each ingredient in this DIY multipurpose beauty balm special:
💛 Argan Oil
Because argan oil contains a significant amount of Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, squalene and antioxidants, it is wondrous for your skin and hair.
It easily sinks into the skin to boost moisture and activates the production of natural lipids that protect the skin’s barrier.
Argan oil provides anti-inflammatory properties which soothe redness and inflammation related to irritated skin, eczema and dry skin.
It also conditions the hair and prevents heat damage.
💛 Beeswax
Since ancient times, beeswax has been used as a beauty product and with good reason too.
It adds a defensive shield on the upper layer of the skin. This protects skin cells from loss of moisture, pollution and skin irritants.
Beeswax is also an emollient that lubricates skin cells.
For those with chapped and flaky skin, beeswax helps because it is a natural exfoliant that helps dissolve dead cells.
💛 Helichrysum Essential Oil
An extraordinary healing oil, helichrysum essential oil contains an anti-inflammatory substance called arzanol, which plays a part in would healing and recovery.
That’s not all – its anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial properties make it useful in healing various skin conditions.
It also boosts skin cell renewal which helps fade blemishes, scars and dark spots.
Helichrysum also has anti-aging properties that reduce fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.
💛Jojoba Oil
Long used by the Native Americans for cosmetic and medicinal purposes, jojoba oil is another ingredient in this DIY multipurpose beauty balm.
This liquid wax or oil produced by tiny jojoba seeds/pods is similar to the natural restorative esters produced by our own oil glands in the skin.
These esters are a lovely emollient that help cleanse, soften and moisturize the skin.
Jojoba oil also contains tocopherols that are forms of Vitamin E. This keeps skin youthful and smooth.
💛 Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is a calming and anti-inflammatory essential oil that helps relieve dry dehydrated and itchy skin.
It is moisturizing which helps preserve the water content in skin cells.
Lavender also has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which fend off germs and bacteria from skin.
💛 Rosehip Oil
A luxurious red-orange carrier oil, rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin C. This vitamin boosts collagen production which promotes scar fading and protects the skin from premature aging.
It helps decrease the appearance of hyperpigmentation, blemishes and dark spots.
Rosehip oil also promotes skin regeneration which helps heal wounds and make skin appear brighter.
💛 Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil contains Vitamin A, Vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids and zinc, all of which are beneficial for your skin, hair and nails.
Sweet almond oil has several benefits including reducing under eye circles, moisturizing dry skin, reversing sun damage, making skin youthful and healthy, reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks and also minimizing puffiness.
💛 Vitamin E Oil
We shall be adding just a little of Vitamin E oil to preserve the freshness of this beauty balm since Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that may help keep the balm from oxidizing quickly.
These same antioxidant properties of Vitamin E protect skin cells from pro-aging and damage-causing free radicals.
Vitamin E is also known for wound healing, removing scars, fading light wrinkles and softening dry skin.
DIY Multipurpose Beeswax Beauty Balm
Let’s go! Here’s the recipe for this DIY multipurpose beeswax beauty balm:
What you need
- 4 fluid ounces of jojoba oil (where to get it)
- 2 fluid ounces of argan oil (where to get it)
- 1 fluid ounce of sweet almond oil (where to get it)
- 1 fluid ounce of rosehip oil (where to get it)
- 3 tablespoons of beeswax pellets (where to get it)
- ¼ teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (where to get it)
- 15 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
- 15 drops helichrysum essential oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Glass container for storage (where to get it)
Directions
- Simply melt the beeswax pellets in a double boiler, together with argan, jojoba, sweet almond and rosehip oils . Make your own double boiler by placing the beeswax in a glass bowl then carefully positioning the glass bowl over a saucepan containing a couple of inches of water. The water should not touch the bowl. Place the saucepan over a medium low heat so the steam can reach the bowl and slowly melt the beeswax.
- Once the beeswax pellets have melted completely, turn off the heat and gently remove the glass bowl.
- Add the essential oils and Vitamin E oil and pour the melted oils into a glass container.
- Allow the beeswax to cool in room temperature.
- Let it set overnight before use.
- When your beauty balm has a thick texture, it’s ready to use!
Take Care
- Store the beauty balm in a clean, dry and dark place to lengthen shelf life.
- Keep it away from water and other contaminants.
- Make sure to do a patch test to make sure your skin doesn’t have an adverse reaction to the oils. To do a patch test, rub a small amount of the beauty balm onto your inner elbow/wrist. Watch for any reaction for at least one hour. If there’s no reaction, you’re good to go!
- Pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and young children should not use certain essential oils so research before using these essential oils.
- Keep this beauty balm away from the reach of children and pets.
