Make a DIY banana hair mask for damaged hair to revive your locks!
Ever thought of putting bananas on your hair? No? Same, that is, until I tried making a hair mask out of it.
Believe it or not, finely pureed banana is actually a great hair conditioning ingredient!
It has nutrients such as Vitamin A, B6 and E as well as fatty acids that help repair frizzy hair and prevent split ends.
Now let’s check out the ingredients in this banana hair mask and what benefits they each provide:
Benefits of the Ingredients in this Banana Hair Mask
We shall be using ripe banana, yogurt, coconut milk and almond oil in this banana hair mask I’m sure you have most of these ingredients in your house right now!
💛 Banana
Applying lump-free banana puree or banana baby food helps condition your hair, making it soft and manageable. It also helps repair hair that is frizzy and looks & feels damaged.
💛 Yogurt
Plain thick yogurt or even Greek yogurt should be used. Yogurt is full of creamy fat that helps nourish and moisturize hair from the roots to the tips. It adds a lustrous sheen to dry and dull looking hair. Just like bananas, yogurt acts as a natural hair conditioner.
It also contains protein, which is needed for strong hair that doesn’t easily break or get split ends.
💛 Almond Oil
Rich in Vitamin E, almond oil is known to be one of the best oils for damaged hair. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It seals the hair cuticles, preventing moisture loss. Using it regularly helps maintain hair shine and lusciousness.
💛 Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is another wonderful natural ingredient for damaged hair. It is full of fatty acids that feed damaged lack-luster hair and make it vibrant again.
It contains a lot of Vitamin E as well, a nutrient known for revitalizing dull damaged hair.
Just like the other ingredients, coconut milk also softens and conditions hair naturally.

How to Apply this DIY Banana Hair Mask
You can apply this DIY banana hair mask on dry hair or wet hair – your call. I prefer dry hair.
- Go over a sink in front of a mirror to avoid making a mess.
- Make partitions of your hair.
- Scoop the banana hair mask using an applicator brush and apply it on your entire scalp.
- Next, use what’s remaining to coat your hair length and ends. Focus slathering the hair mask on your damaged length and ends.
- Cover your hair and scalp with a shower cap.
- Leave it on to work its magic for 30-40 minutes.
- Rinse it off very well using COLD water. Hot water may cook the bananas and leave you with cooked bits in your hair. Funny but true story.
- Once your hair is rid of the banana hair mask, wash it with shampoo as usual. I recommend using a natural shampoo targeted at damaged hair (where to get one)
- You’ll find that there will be no need to even use conditioner because your hair will feel so soft and tangle-free!
- Repeat this DIY banana hair mask at least once a week.
