A leave-in conditioner is perfect for de-frizzing your hair and keep it feeling smooth and looking shiny.
Below are the ingredients we are going to be using and their benefits in this DIY hair growth stimulating leave-in conditioner.
Benefits of the Ingredients
Let’s look at the benefits of the ingredients used in this DIY hair growth stimulating leave-in conditioner.
1. Shea Butter
Shea butter is one of the main ingredients in this DIY hair growth stimulating conditioner.
It is made up of different types of fatty acids that make it protect the hair shaft and condition your hair length beautifully.
Unrefined shea butter is rich in Vitamin A and E that help boost the health of your scalp and hair.
It helps moisturize each hair strand without weighing it down. It also helps reduce dryness, frizz and breakage.
2. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is another ingredient in this hair growth stimulating conditioner. It helps bring all the ingredients together into a creamy texture. It also contains antioxidants that protect & repair hair from sun damage.
The hair protein easily binds with lauric acid, a fatty acid found in coconut oil, which promotes strong long hair by strengthening hair strands and preventing breakage of hair.
3. Argan Oil
Argan oil is a gem for hair. Using it makes hair soft, glossy and beautiful.
It helps fight against frizz and roughness.
This Moroccan oil is also excellent in repairing and reversing chemical damage from hair treatments and sun damage too.
It contains high levels of Vitamin E that encourages growth of healthy, soft and hydrated hair strands.
4. Witch Hazel Hydrosol
This will be the wet ingredient that helps bind everything together into a creamy, non-greasy conditioner.
It also helps fortify hair strands and acts as a tonic that helps keep hair cleansed. Adding it to this DIY hair growth stimulating leave-in conditioner helps condition hair without weighing it down.
5. Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary may be the best essential oil for thinning hair. It is reportedly known to increase growth of new (baby) hairs by 20%.
It also has antioxidants that protect hair from free radicals that cause oxidative damage that may cause thinning hair and premature graying.
6. Horsetail Extract Oil
Horsetail contains an important mineral: silica which makes hair strands strong as well as improves their texture and shine.
It is an astringent which helps adds a healthy shine to hair while preventing this leave-in conditioner from becoming too oily.
DIY Hair Growth Stimulating Leave-In Conditioner
What you need
- 4 tablespoons of shea butter (where to get it)
- 3 tablespoons of coconut oil (where to get it)
- 2 tablespoons of witch hazel hydrosol (where to get it)
- 1 tablespoons of argan oil (where to get it)
- 7 drops of rosemary essential oil (where to get it)
- 7 drops horsetail extract oil (where to get it)
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil (where to get it)
- High speed blender (where to get it)
- Airtight storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- Make sure the tools needed are fully sanitized to prevent mold or bacteria from growing in your DIY conditioner. Wash the tools with hot soapy water, dry thoroughly then swab with rubbing alcohol and leave it to air dry.
- Begin by making a double boiler by adding a few inches of water in a large pot. Heat the pot on a low flame. In a glass bowl, add shea butter, coconut oil and argan oil. Please the bowl on top of the pot. Stir occasionally until everything is completely melted.
- Once melted, add Vitamin E oil and mix.
- Now remove the heat.
- Add witch hazel hydrosol to a pot and heat it up until it is roughly the same temperature as the melted oils.
- Pour the melted oils into a high speed blender and start blending.
- Through the open end of the blender, slowly add the witch hazel hydrosol in a constant stream while the melted oils are blending. It will take a couple of minutes for the witch hazel + melted oils to combine into a white creamy mixture.
- Finally, add the essential oils and whizz one last time.
- Using a silicone spatula, transfer the cream into a clean air tight container.
- Your DIY hair growth stimulating leave-in conditioner is ready! Store in a cool, dry place.
How to Apply
Just scoop a suitable amount of the hair conditioner with clean fingers and apply to wet/dry hair.
Notes
- It lasts 2-3 months because it doesn’t contain any preservative. However, because this is a little amount, you will have used this up before it has time to go bad.
- Make sure you aren’t allergic to any of these ingredients before applying them on your hair. You can do a patch test by applying a pea-sized amount of this behind your ear. If there is no itchiness or redness in at least 30 minutes in the area, then it’s safe for you.
I hope this DIY hair growth stimulating leave-in conditioner works well for you! Let me know if you have any queries in the comments below!
